The Legendary History of our Property
Villa Veintiséis was once home to legendary Mexican musician and songwriter, Juan Gabriel. Known for his romantic lyrics and iconic ballads, Juan Gabriel is remembered as the best Mexican composer and singer of all time. Throughout his life, Juan Gabriel made many investments in real estate. The 1937 house now known as Villa Veintiséis was his first home in Florida, purchased in 1999. He owned the property for four years, furnishing it and adding the Terrazzo pebble patio during that time. In fact, some of his own furniture pieces are still featured in the home today.
About Juan Gabriel
Born Alberto Aguilera Valadez on January 7, 1950 in Parácuaro, Mexico, Juan Gabriel was proud of his humble beginnings. The son of farmers and the youngest of ten siblings, he grew up in an orphanage when his family could no longer afford to raise him. It is well-known that Juan Gabriel’s music was inspired by his life, his first song, “No Tengo Dinero” being inspired by his upbringing in poverty.
Juan Gabriel rose from poverty and moved to the United States, quickly accumulating more fame, wealth, and real estate. He was proud to own real estate throughout the world, as a legacy he could eventually pass down to his children. He only ever sold a few of his homes, one of which being the Homestead Garden estate now known as Villa Veintiséis. Juan Gabriel left a lasting impression on the property through its furnishings, garden accents, plants and more.
The Song Tree
Juan Gabriel wrote many songs while enjoying the property’s lush gardens. One of his favorite spots was underneath a central tree in the garden. We now call it the Song Tree, one of many locations on the grounds where couples can choose to exchange vows during their wedding ceremony.
Juan Gabriel lived at this property from 1999 until 2003. During those years, Juan Gabriel wrote one of his most popular love ballads, Abrázame Muy Fuerte. He produced and released that album along with his “Inocente de Ti” album while living in this home. He was known to enjoy the garden grounds and spent time outside admiring his bird aviary, koi pond, and tropical fruit trees.
Apollo's Blessing
Ensuring garden guests would be struck with inspiration, Juan Gabriel adorned the entrance with a statue of Apollo. God of music, songs, dance, and poetry, Apollo is often depicted performing at the weddings of the gods and among the muses. His statue is right at home within the lush gardens that inspired Juan Gabriel’s unforgettable music. Apollo’s presence is welcomed and embraced at wedding ceremonies taking place at Villa Veintiséis.
